How to Put on a Cock Cage

Before you get too excited, there are a few simple things to do before you put your cage on. Taking a little time at the start can avoid some difficulties further down the road.

Preparation Before Wearing a Chastity Cage

Before you put your cage on, there are a few simple things you can do to make your experience easier and more comfortable.

First, you’ll want to check the cage over for any damage. Make sure all the parts fit together properly, and look for any sharp edges or rough patches that might make the cage uncomfortable to wear. If you find anything, you can usually file it down with some fine sandpaper to make it smooth again.

Once your cage is ready, getting your penis ready is a good next step. Taking a shower will help encourage the blood flow around your body, and can soften up your skin and make it easier to manipulate your body. You’ll want to be flaccid when you put your cage on, so if you find yourself struggling with an erection then some cold water and ice can help get your penis back down.

You might also want to spend some time grooming your genitals. Once you put the cage on, you’ll often find that pubic hair can get caught in the cage which can be quite painful. It can also make the cage hotter and sweatier, so a good shave can help prepare your penis.

Lastly you might want to get yourself a good quality lube. Cock cages should be relatively tight to hold your penis in place properly, so getting them on can be a little tricky (especially getting your balls through the ring). Using lubrication can make the process much smoother and easier.

How to Fit and Measure for the Right Chastity Cage

Another very important point when preparing for your chastity cage is making sure it fits correctly. But just how do you measure for a cock cage?

We can break this process down into two simple parts. You should measure separately for both the ring and the tube.

The tube is the simpler part, as you just need to measure the length of your penis. To get an accurate measurement, place a tape measure on top of your penis with one end pressed against your pubic mound (where your penis joins onto the rest of your body). Measure right up to the tip of your penis, and make a note of the measurement.

Your tube length should be as close as possible to this length, but some men like it to be slightly bigger or smaller.

The ring is a little more complicated, and you’ll need a calculator to find the measurement. You need to find the diameter or girth of your penis, but to find this you’ll need to measure all the way around it to find the circumference.

Right at the base of your penis, wrap a tape measure all the way around it. Take note of the number where the tape measure meets. This is the circumference.

Once you have this measurement, divide it by 3.14 to get the diameter. Your ring should be as close as possible to this measurement. A little bigger is fine, but we wouldn’t recommend going smaller as you may cut off circulation to your penis.

If you don’t have a tape measure, all of these measurements can be taken with a piece of string. Simply mark with a pen the length on the string, then place it alongside a ruler to find out the measurements.

Once you have the measurements you can go shopping and find a cage that will fit perfectly!

Wearing the Chastity Cage

Once you’re ready to put it on, it’s quite a simple process. First, place your balls one at a time through the ring. Then fold your penis down and push it through the ring as well. Any pins should be facing away from your body so they can attach to the tube.

Then, place the tube over your shaft, line up the pins, and lock!

Your cage will usually have either a padlock design, or a barrel lock. A padlock design will simply have a hole in one of the pins for you to put your padlock through. A barrel lock is a self contained lock which slots into the cage. Once you activate it, it stays securely in place and keeps your cage shut.

While most commercial models will be similar to what we’ve described above, some manufacturers may use slightly different designs. Some people even make their own DIY chastity cages! If your cage has a different design then make sure to check through any instructions that came with it to ensure correct use.

What it's Like to Wear a Chastity Cage

Once you’re locked, you’ll probably have a period of adjustment before you find it truly comfortable. Over time these frustrations will fade, but it’s good to know what to expect before you start.

One obvious problem is peeing in chastity. With a cage over your penis, you might find it a little more difficult than usual to use the toilet without making a mess. Some men even find that their pee will spray out! The simplest solution to this is just to pee sitting down. Some cages also come with holes of different designs or even tubes for urination, so there’s plenty of options.

Another thing that most men will experience at first will be painful erections. Your body won’t be used to the restriction, and you’ll find that your penis pushes uncomfortable against the cage whenever you become aroused. This will naturally fade over time, but at first it can be good to practise avoiding naughty thoughts to make the process easier for yourself.

The best advice we can give is to start slowly. Do an hour or two and gradually work your way up to longer and longer lock-up periods.

Aside from initial teething problems, you’ll be free to start experiencing many of the joys of chastity. Frustration and temptation at not being able to use your penis, freedom and subservience as someone else takes control of your penis, even humiliation or feminization! There are countless ways to enjoy male chastity now that your penis is safely locked up.

Can You Wear a Chastity Cage in Public?

After your initial sessions, you might find that you want to wear your cage for longer and longer periods. Naturally, this will eventually mean you need to take the plunge and wear it outside the house.

Is this allowed? Is it legal? Will people know?

There are plenty of worries that men have the first time they wear a cage somewhere unfamiliar, but most of the time they are completely unnecessary. As long as you’re considerate of what you’re doing and where you’re going, you should have no trouble with taking chastity outside.

For situations where more discretion is required, you’ll want to choose a lightweight cage. Silicone or plastic models with a barrel lock are usually better as you can avoid any clinking metal sounds.

If you’re not worried about being caught, you can wear any cage you want! Some men even like to wear larger and more bulkier models, so that the bulge shows through their pants and people have their suspicions about what’s going on down there.

Can You Have Sex While Wearing a Chastity Cage?

As your cage is long and hard, one thing that men sometimes wonder is if they can have sex while wearing it. Even though you can’t get an erection in chastity, your partner could still enjoy themselves with your cage, right?

Unfortunately, we don’t recommend this. Due to the different shapes and parts of the cage, it can be painful to penetrate someone with it. It can also be painful for the wearer, as their erections will be stopped by the cage.

Luckily there are plenty of other options to have some fun while wearing your cage. We cover these in more detail in our article on orgasms while in male chastity, but you could try different sex toys, stimulating different parts of your body, or even a penis cover to go over your cage and let you try regular penetration!

Permanent and Long-Term Chastity

As time goes on, most men find themselves enjoying their cage so much that they’ll wear their cage for longer and longer periods. Eventually, he might want to keep it on all the time, trying out long-term or even permanent chastity.

If this is something that you’re interested in, then it can be a great experience. There are many benefits of wearing a chastity cage that can be incorporated into your everyday life. But you should take care to make sure this is done in a way that is safe for the man, and also done with his permission.

If you ever experience any problems while wearing your chastity cage for a long period of time, then you should remove it immediately.

When Can You Take Off Your Chastity Cage?

Often a man will think that once he’s put a cage on, he’s got to keep it on forever. This simply isn’t the case though. You can take it off whenever you want!

You might decide to only wear it for a couple of hours a day, or only for special occasions. You might take it off to pee, or to sleep. And of course it’ll need to come off for a regular cleaning.

Some men even like to enter into a chastity agreement with another person. This will lay out a set of rules for the man to live by, and stipulate exactly how often he’ll be released and for what purpose. It might just be for a tease, or if he’s lucky he might get a full orgasm. He’ll usually be put straight back into his cage though.

Tips on Maintaining Your Chastity Cages

Like any piece of hardware you use regularly, you’ll want to take some basic steps to make sure your chastity cage remains in great condition for years of use.

Regular Checks and Cleaning

If you’re only wearing your chastity cage for a couple of hours at a time, you should clean it every time you take it off. If you’re wearing it more long-term, then we recommend taking it off a couple of times a week so you can give both your cage and your penis a good clean.

Most cages can be cleaned with basic soap and water. You’ll want to avoid anything with ingredients that might cause irritation of your skin, especially with your penis being more sensitive than many other body parts. Definitely avoid bleach or anything similar.

Make sure you get into all the nooks and crannies of the device. For any hard to reach areas, Q-tips are great. After cleaning, make sure you either leave it out to air dry, or dry it off manually before placing it into storage. This stops any mold building up in or on the device.

While cleaning you should also give your device a once over to check for any wear and tear or damage. Any rough or worn areas should be cleaned up with fine sandpaper, and any sharp edges should be filed down.

If you ever feel any pain or unusual discomfort from your device, you should stop wearing it immediately and thoroughly check it over.

Proper Storage

Like any other sex toys, your chastity cages should be stored properly when not in use. You don’t want any dust or grime to build up on it before you use it again.

The easiest way to store it is in the box it came with. If you’ve already thrown it out, then don’t worry, any box will do! You’ll also want to store it in a place without too much moisture or direct sunlight, or the device may go moldy between uses. Somewhere like a cupboard is perfect.

Another tip is to avoid storing different silicone devices in the same containers. When two pieces of silicone touch each other, they can react and start to break each other down. You wouldn’t want to get excited to wear your cage, only to find it’s started to degrade, would you?

Consent and Safety

The final part of the cage wearing process you should consider is consent and safety. As with most of the more unusual sexual practises, male chastity should follow the principles of SSC – Safe, Sane and Consensual.

Safe, Sane and Consensual: The mantra of any type of unusual sexual activity. The activity must be safe for all participants, reasonable, and have the full consent of anyone involved.

Many men will enter into a chastity agreement when locking up their penis. During this process, consent should be discussed not just for the wearing of the cage, but for any other activities to be done during male chastity. Never be afraid to say no to anything that you’re uncomfortable with.

It’s also a good idea to choose a safe word. This should be something that you wouldn’t usually say during sexual play, and acts as a brake to immediately end anything currently happening. Something like “banana” or “giraffe” works great.

Michael is the author of the Total Chastity Diary and has been in and out of chastity since his mid-thirties. He’s now 41. He lives and works in Boston, has a white-collar job, and is single by choice.

“There’s nothing hugely special about me. I’d describe myself as your typical modern, forward-thinking guy. I enjoy sports, staying healthy, love my family and friends, and have a satisfying career that pushes me to work hard so I can enjoy some of life's luxuries.

I’m whatever constitutes as “normal.” It just so happens that I also enjoy the feeling of putting my cock in a cage, leaving it there for a week or two, then reaping the benefits of being released from my cage.

Starting my chastity journey felt like starting any other new hobby or interest. I wanted to make sure I was doing it right and had good equipment to help me achieve the results I wanted. But when I began looking into male chastity and cock cages, what I found was a lot of fetish talk.

While I accept this is what male chastity means for some - dressing up as a sissy, being spanked by a Dominant and whatever - the kinky kicks aren’t what I’m into.

My hope with the Total Chastity  Diary is to bring a more matter-of-fact voice to chastity experiences.”
